Watch a movie on Adding a Promotion

Promotions are used to make special offers to your customers. You can give your customers a Promotional Code via an email newsletter, included in the details of their invoice, or via an advertisement. By configuring these settings MercuryCart will be able to apply the correct discount to any promotional code.

Promo Settings

Affiliates & Promos -> Promo Settings

Activate Promotion Box in Customer info.

Makes the Promotion field appear on the Customer Details Page when checking out, by entering in a valid code the customer will benefit from whatever discount you have assigned to that code. The next four boxes don’t need much of an explanation, they can be left at their default values or changed to whatever error messages you like.

Add Promo

Affiliates & Promos -> Add Promo

Promotion Type:

Three options are given here to select from, Free Shipping, Percentage Discount, and Amount Discount. The Free Shipping option is pretty much self-explanatory in that any customer to your site entering in the special Promotion code will have the shipping cost removed from their order.

The Percentage Discount option is the most commonly used, if this was set to 10%, then any customer using the promotion code would have their entire order reduced by this amount, please note this only applies to the sub total and does not take taxes or shipping into the calculation.

Promotion Status

If you would like to suspend a promotion you only need to check the “In-Active” box, this will leave all the settings in place should you wish to continue at a later time.

Promotion Name

This is a mandatory field and must be filled in. Filling this in with a meaningful name will help you run reports from within the “Promo Stats” function, which we shall be looking at shortly.

Promotion Code

Set any code you like here, it can be a word, letters, numbers or a combination, but try to keep it short and easy to remember. This too is a mandatory field.

Promotion Cart Label

This is the name that describes the promotion and appears in the cart page when the customer is checking out, try to use a descriptive name such as “Returning Customer”. It’s good to let the customer know that you have applied the discount.

Promotion Expiry Date:

As an option you can set a date for the promotion to run until, upon this date being reached the promotion will expire and will no longer be valid

Amount or Percentage of Discount:

If you opted for “Percentage Discount” under “Promotion Type” then whatever value you enter will be taken as a percentage. Only enter a value without the % symbol, to enter a discount of 10%, you would simple enter 10 as a whole number.

If the “Amount Discount “ was selected as your desired method you would enter 10 without any currency symbols into this field and this will give a reduction in the subtotal by that amount irrespective of the overall order value.

Promotion Threshold

If you would like to set a minimum value that has to be purchased before the promotion becomes active you may enter that value threshold into this field.

V/E/D Promos

Affiliates & Promos -> V/E/D Promos

If you need to view all the promotions that you have currently in your cart or you wish to quickly locate one that needs amending, the view/edit/delete section is ideal for this. This section lists all the current promotions. On the left hand side next to each entry are icons that allow the viewing of stats, the viewing of the basic parameters of the promotion, the editing of that promotion and also the option to delete. If you have a large list of promotions, the search function at the bottom of the page can be used to locate it.

Promo Stats

Affiliates & Promos -> Promo Stats

The Promotion Statistics feature allows you to custom build reports on any or all of your promotions. Stats can be complied for any date range by selecting either, “Today’s Stats”, “Current Month’s Stats” or via the date range option, once you have decided the period for which you require the data, you can then specify if the report should be for all the promotions that are active or you can set it to a individual promo from the drop down list.
